Season One follows a woman and her children through an archive of records created by social services, hospitals, county courts, and the Catholic Church - institutions that came to define what would be known about her life.
Episodes are intended to be heard in sequence, beginning with Episode 1.

A private detective investigates. A police officer accompanies a worker to an apartment.

A doctor records a differential diagnosis. Faith is called upon.

March 25th, 1951.
“ Christmas Eve”
A release form is signed. An announcement is printed in a local newspaper.
“ A Name Redacted”
A new name enters the record. The record keeps it hidden.
“ A Letter Returned”
A court hearing is held. A letter goes unopened.
“ Committed”
A referral to determine potentiality is written. A delivery warrant is issued.
“ An Ideal Situation”
A nun records a baby’s development. The baby is removed from the nursery.
“ An Environmental Influence”
A doctor dismisses the hereditary factor. A court examination leaves the cause of illness blank.
“ A Home”
An IQ report. Another psychological test. Another permanent commitment.
“ A Concern”
A child receives a new home. She is labeled difficult.
